How to Update YU Yureka to Android 5.0 Lollipop (CM12)

YU Yureka is finally receiving the OFFICIAL update to Cyanogen 12 which packs Android 5.0 (Lollipop). The update is presently rolling out to Yureka users in a phased manner and will hopefully fix a few (if not all) of the bugs and issues. Other than that, the Cyanogen 12 update brings CyanogenMail, Exchange support, multiple account integration, App themer and many other goodies over the stock Android 5.0. Here’s how you can update and enjoy Android Lollipop on your Yureka smartphone.

OTA Update via Phone Settings (Available to many)

The easiest method to update Yureka to CM 12 (Lollipop) will be to make use of the OTA updates which will be delivered to Yureka phones in the next 3 days. While many users have already received, other users will receive a notification when an update is available, but they can check manually by going to Settings> About> System Update.

Manually Update via Recovery (Available, No Root Needed)

Couldn’t wait for the OTA update to be pushed to your Yureka or don’t have a fast data connection? You can simply download the update zip file and flash it manually by heading to the recovery. This does not need root access and will not void your warranty either. Updating via recovery is generally as safe as the OTA updates, but it is still recommended that you backup your important data before proceeding.

  1. Download CM 12 (Lollipop) zip (named: cm-12.0-YNG1TAS0W0-tomato-signed.zip) from HERE (646MB).
  2. Copy or move it to the /download folder in Phone Memory.
  3. Turn off your phone.
  4. Boot into recovery mode by pressing and holding Volume Up + Volume Down + Power Button simultaneously.cyanogen recovery
  5. Wipe the cache and then select Apply Update > Choose from internal storage > 0/ > Download and select the CM 12 zip (cm-12.0-YNG1TAS0W0-tomato-signed.zip).
  6. When the flashing finishes, select Reboot system now and wait for the phone to restart and boot up to the new OS.

  • I am using yureka from 9 months i have updated the system once already. Again i got a notification to update 3 days back, i have started updating and during that process battery was over. when i switched on the phone in the morning some of the apps are not working like chrome, google photos etc and internet also becomes very slow. Battery started draining very fast.

    • Is the update successfully installed? Check the about section to see if it shows that you’re running the latest version.

      • Sir, I have purchased a YU Yureka Plus which is on stock android! And i have given it to Micromax care to make it Cyanogen OS, but they said me on Kitkat is available with them! And i want to make it a Cyanogen Mod OS, so what i’ll do?
        Would I download the zip file & make it manually or wait till lollipop comes! Is there will be any problem in my phone to make it Cyanogen OS?

    • The new Yureka Plus comes with Stock Android and as such this Cyanogen incremental update is not valid for your phone.

    • No. This won’t work for the Yureka Plus as I believe it comes with Stock Android rather than Cyanogen. You can go ahead and return it or request a replacement, as you decide.

    • Hey Kreethi first remove your phone battery,now insert your phone battery do not switch on the phone….now press and hold Volume Up + Volume Down + Power buttons simultaneously until you see YU logo.now you are in Recovery Mode, choose wipe data/factory reset and perform the operation.
      Now choose wipe cache partition and perform the operation.
      Now finally choose Wipe media and perform operation.
      Once done, reboot your device.

    • I’m using a phone running Lollipop and have used Yureka on Lollipop as well. I can only conclude that Android 4.4 is much more smoother and reliable as compared to 5.0/5/1.

    • It seems like the update installation failed. Please try factory reset via recovery and if that fails, contact YU Support and ask for assistance.

    • No. It will not be erased, but still for a ‘Bad Luck’ part, backup the super important data that you have in your phone 🙂

  • I updated my phone to cynogen 12 os in mobile only. There are lots of issues.
    I could see the Call Dial pad with only keys 1,4,7 and * which is 1/3 of the dail keypad vertically.
    Mobile Hangs frequently. Battery drains very fastly.
    Settings will not open showing an error msg “Settings Stopped Unfortunately”. Still doesn’t open even after rebooting the device.
    And the Performance has began slow.
    This cynogen update is worst

  • Hey guys a few days back I complained about the problem which most of us yureka users were /are facing – unable to receive calls as the screen went blank ..I found the reason for this problem is tht the proximity and light sensors stopped working and in order to solve this problem all of u please DIAL *#*#7769#*#* and click start …this worked for me hope it did for u too ..thank you

  • After updating to Cyanogen OS 12 mobile is not able to connect with PC. Also face recognition screen lock feature is unavailable. Switching to chrome new tab is bit tough. Really some feature are good but overall not better than os 11.

    1. the display shows only half alphabets….. when we scroll down the screen from top.
    2. donot get connected to the PC for transfering of files.

  • Sir I’m on the XNPH08P version of cm11…it was an unofficial ota by XDA..I flashed it..n now I have not got the update…is it due to this reason?? Will I get it?? And is it safe for my device to manually update it?? Cz I think its for XNPH05Q version…won’t I get my device bricked.?? Plzz help

    • You surely need to manually update it as the unofficial one might not ping the same server to check for the updates. I’m not really sure, but it should go fine if you do the manual update. Still, as a precaution, backup any important data and keep the stock ROM and flashing tools with you in case something goes wrong.

    • Please check THIS for the Blank Screen. As about battery, it won’t improve, however you can still try checking out what is consuming the battery and probably turn off some features to get a little more backup.

    • Something went wrong. Try if clearing the cache (via Recovery) solves it. Else try manually flashing CM12. If that fails as well, you’ll be needed to flash the full stock ROM.

    i tried in the same time which you mentioned, still no one is picking my call and the call cost is almost 3RS for 70 seconds.

    • That’s sad, but I cannot comment much. Only a rare few have been lucky to connect with a real representative. While I understand that you’re being charged without any solution, you need to keep trying.

    • For sound, some people say that disabling AudioFX has improved the results, but they weren’t considerable. Battery consumption is something which I hated about the device and decided to sell it for the same reason. Depends all on your usage, but do check the Battery Usage chart to see if there’s some specific app consuming most of the battery.

  • My phone heating like hell after updating to lolipop earlier in kitkat it ws not exceeding 50°¢ after heavy gaming…. But now the common temperature is around. 65-70 °¢.. ….cant hold the phone in sunlight. I dont know y it heats so much……guys can any1 come up with a solution

    My mobile was completely black, even after i press the power button for long time also. i am not able to see anything in my mobile, i spoke to amazon customer care they told only 10 days return policy,(only 12 completed after buying this shit mobile, while i was talk to the customer care) and they said we will give you YU support provider number. i spoke to them they it is proximity sensor problem, we will send you the lollipop update to your device and then the problem will get resolved. i don’t know how it will be resolved, because i am not able to see any thing in my device, because it is completely black. please any one help me what i have to do in this.

    we have to seriously complaint about amazon, its bloody shit!! e-commerce site, now i keep on trying to the YU support provider, no one is responding to me. the YU support provider number, which i got from amazon is 18602122122.

    we have to strongly complaint about Amazon First and then Micromax for giving this kind of shit mobiles into market.

    • Try contacting on that number in the early morning hours 10:30-11:00 and hopefully somebody will pick up.

  • Even basic things like attending call doesn’t work after upgrade. It goes black screen. And the battery also gets drained so fast.
    So, better don’t go for this upgrade.
    I had an error like “Unknown error occurred on Google play music”. After relogin into google account and re-installing Google play music, this issue got resolved.

    • Causes of this issue.

      This issue is sometimes caused due to screen guard or the tempered glass but in some cases it occurs due to software issue and requires re-calibration.

      Now coming to solution:
      To eliminate this issue we have introduced an engineering code in the latest lollipop build which can be manually triggered and the end user can re-calibrate the Proximity sensor.

      [IMPORTANT: THIS IS FOR LATEST 64 BIT LOLLIPOP BUILD]

      Steps to manually calibrate proximity sensor:

      1. Go to Dialpad.
      2. Dial *#*#7769#*#*
      3. A proximity sensor calibration window will pop up.
      4. Press “Start”
      5. The sensor will be automatically calibrated, a message will appear “ Calibration Good”
      6. Press Exit to close window.

    I also updated my mobile to new CM12 after updating the software i’m also encountered with same problems like Black screen, Heating problem and Google music app like this But after some fightback with the software i think now my mobile is working fine. Not in every aspect but it is little better then before.

    1) Black screen Issue – You can notice the brightness control bar in Quick launch Icon list Set it to centre of the of scroll bar(50%). And Goto —> Settings —-> Display & light Tab—-> Turn on Adaptive Brightness And i hope it will solve the issue.

    2) For other issues Just reboot your mobile a few times.
    3) For battery issue Goto —-> Settings —-> Battery —-> Change the mode to from Balance to Power save. And restart the device.
    4) Update all applications.
    Lets try these steps. And I hope Cynogen Will release the Update within this Month…. 🙂

  • this is just an realy bad phone plz dont buy it guyz it sucks the worst phone i have ever seen i lost my money these people are cheating on us we need to go complaint at consumer court for cheating us like giving a worst phone like this which have bug issue and screen turns over black when got a call i cant attend a call

    • Causes of this issue.

      This issue is sometimes caused due to screen guard or the tempered glass but in some cases it occurs due to software issue and requires re-calibration.

      Now coming to solution:
      To eliminate this issue we have introduced an engineering code in the latest lollipop build which can be manually triggered and the end user can re-calibrate the Proximity sensor.

      [IMPORTANT: THIS IS FOR LATEST 64 BIT LOLLIPOP BUILD]

      Steps to manually calibrate proximity sensor:

      1. Go to Dialpad.
      2. Dial *#*#7769#*#*
      3. A proximity sensor calibration window will pop up.
      4. Press “Start”
      5. The sensor will be automatically calibrated, a message will appear “ Calibration Good”
      6. Press Exit to close window.

  • I got an automatic update sometime before and was not sure as to update to 5.0 or not since I have heard a lot of problems like bugs report and heating issues also… I think that I should wait for 5.1 lollipop cyanogen 12 update

    • Getting headache while using Micromax YU Yureka after updating to lolipop earlier in kitkat it ws not feel like that ,i have changed the brightness to min -max but always getting headache whenever i started to using it.cant use phone.

    • It’s worst. Battery draining very fast, earlier I got a backup of 20 hrs but Now only 12 hrs. Downloading of apps (themer) not working. Manual Brightness control malfunctioning if set low screen completely blank.
      I am planning to uninstall lollipop…….

    • I’m not sure. It should’ve been delivered already, but as it is not, keep waiting. However, unfortunately you might be needed to proceed with manual installation only.

    I have a Yureka with lots of problems…it takes more than 30 minutes to switch on, sim not accessable, audioFx not working, not more than half a day battery will be there, and hearing problem. i am left with no clue why this is happening now feeling sad for buying this phone moreover no service centre in bangalore, the toll free number never connects.     • You weren’t supposed to do Factory Reset for OTA. In fact you never need to do Factory Reset for any type of update.

    • If a restart shows that still and you don’t see the Android 5.0 related changes, your phone isn’t updated yet. Consider doing manually.

    • It is being pushed in a phased manner so not everyone will receive it at the same time.
      If you do manual, it won’t delete your data or apps, but still DO backup any seriously important data that you have in your phone memory.

    • There will be mild heating and this happens with all the phones. You might want to lower down the CPU frequency and it will generate lesser heat, but performance will slightly suffer tho.

    • Please restart it a few times and let it scale the resources properly for optimal performance. If you still face the sluggish response, consider doing a hard reset.

    • No your data will not be effected. Still, for a rare case scenario, do backup anything seriously important that you’ve saved in your phone.
