Fix – Apps Not Downloading from Play Store in OnePlus 3/3T After Nougat Update

OnePlus 3 & 3T recently got the software update to Android 7 (Oxygen OS 4.x.x) i.e. Nougat. After the update, many OnePlus 3 devices are facing this odd issue in which the downloading from Play Store does not work anymore. While browsing Play Store works fine, when it comes to downloading, the file keeps waiting forever & ever.

Here are a few solutions which worked on 3 of our OnePlus 3 devices. You should give them a try and hopefully your OnePlus 3 or OnePlus 3T will start downloading your apps and games normally. Please do note that this might not help if you’re using mobile data and are roaming outside of your home circle.

Solution 1 – Turn on Data Saver

You should try this solution if downloading apps over a Wi-Fi connection works fine. Or if you’re only going to make use of mobile data for downloading apps. This fix only allowed us to download apps over a mobile data connection.

If you’re on roaming mode, then these steps will not help. Roaming issue is with Android itself and we will need to wait for Google to fix it.
  1. Go to Settings > Data usage.
  2. Tap on 3 dots at the top right and select Data saver.
  3. Turn on Data saver.data saver OnePlus 3
  4. Tap on Unrestricted data access and disable for Google Play Store & Google Play Services.
  5. The apps should start downloading.

Do turn off data saver after you’ve finished downloading apps. Otherwise, some apps might not work when put in the background.

Solution 2 – Uninstall Updates for Google Play Store

You should try this solution if you are facing the downloading issue on both WiFi as well as cellular data. It helped us in using the Play Store normally over both the connections.

  1. Open Settings > Apps.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Google Play Store.
  3. Tap on the 3 dots at the top right.
    Play Store Uninstall Updates
  4. Choose Uninstall Updates.
  5. Open Play Store and try downloading the apps again. They should download fine.

Other Things to Try:

  1. Make sure Play Store and Play Services are set to allow in – Settings > Data usage > options > Data usage control.
  2. Uninstall updates for Google Play Services – Settings > Apps > options > show system > Google Play Services > options > Uninstall updates.
  3. Confirm that WiFi connection is not metered – Settings > Data usage > WiFi > Network restrictions.
  4. Uninstall Apps – TrueCaller, Paytm & AVG AntiVirus and see if the problem is resolved.

Conclusion:

We did personally test the above solutions on 3 different devices affected by the same issue and the issue was sorted. But, we still need your opinion if you were able to fix the app downloading issue on your OP3 device. Please do let us know using the comments section below 🙂

  • i have tried evrything for so much time…. but nothing worked…! At last tried uninstalled true caller app.Now everything working fine. Thank you….!

  • Hi All,

This since this is nothing pertaining to the device or network provider.

This is not an issue but a safety/security setting to avoid roaming charges on Nougat.

To enable downloading of Apps from PlayStore while on roaming, we need to provide unrestricted access to PlayStore app under app settings.

    Follow the steps below:

    Go to settings app.

    Under personal tap Apps.

At the top right tap settings “cog wheel/ Gear wheel icon”.

Scroll down and tap special access.

    Select unrestricted data access.

Find the PlayStore app from the list and enable unrestricted data access.

    You are good to go.

    Hope this was helpful.

    Regards,

    • There’s nothing else that we can do right now mate. Probably factory reset is your only available option.

      • i have did factory resitting also but its not coming, when i am using WIFI i can download applications but cant with my mobile data, i am on roaming may be that is why i am facing this issue.

        • Yes, roaming issue is an Android Nougat issue and all devices are currently affected. You need to wait for Google to fix it 🙂

  • this is a problem with not just one plus….i have samsung s7 edge which was upgraded to 7.0 on Indian firmware and google play will not update/download with roaming sim but will do on wifi. I have not tried on a local sim card though. Done all tricks but nothing seems to work including factory reset.

    • Yes, the roaming issue is from Google’s side and currently all Android Nougat phones are affected. I’m unsure if a recent patch to Android code has fixed it or not.

  • Recently bought one plus 3t and upgraded to nougt..have to use data in roaming and facing the above issue.. when we can expect a fix for this from Google..

  • I have tried all these things, and none work, I’m really having second thoughts about my OnePlus 3, please let me know if any other solution comes up.

  • I tried all the three solutions but still i am facing the same problem. I am not able to update or download any app from play store, its really disappointed.
What’s wrong with one plus 3 team,i thought that it was a great phone, but after updation ,my opinions are changed.
One of my friend,he also facing same problem.

  • Hello, All

I tried all the solutions mentioned, uninstalling truecaller and rebooting the device worked for me.

    Thank you guys 🙂

  • Hi…
As soon as you uninstall Truecaller app then Magic happens here.
You can go ahead to play store and update your apps.
    Thank you so much guys,.
    🙂

  • Not solve my problem.
I try uninstalla paytm, freecharge true caller call dialer
Try your 123 solustion but not work im op3t
    Pls any other suggestions
W time reset all factory data after reset factory data work very vell
But some days same problem issue

  • Thanks to the one whosoever’s idea was to uninstall truecaller.. it really worked for me atleast.. i was damn frustrated with this drawback of not being able to install apps.
    I m really thankful

  • For me, it wasnt the issue on roaming.
I tried clearing cache, uninstalling updates and multiple restarts.
Ended up uninstalling paytm and truecaller (didnt believe it could be the culprit but still)
After all this, I lost my play store icon from desktop. It was still there in app menu though. When clicked, it was just stuck at a blank screen.
I am on Freedom OS Nougat build and installed a substratum theme for play store. Uninstalled it, restarted my phone. And play store loaded. It started working. I am totally amazed by the stupidity of this entire process.

Anyways, I reinstalled paytm/truecaller and gave them all the app permission required. Also, reinstalled the substratum theme for google play services and google play store. Restarted the phone and its all working.

I have read few things on forum regarding it-
    1. Somehow truecaller/paytm (or maybe some other antivirus apps too) have some permissions issues which need to be given before play store starts working. Sounds stupid, right? but yeah, thats the way of life 🙂
    2. People are able to make play store work in battery saving mode as the Nougat doze mode might be killing play store from the background. Still, doesnt explain why the play store wont be able to download an app when its running in foreground. Well, what can I say. Life is a mystery!

  • UNINSTALL TRUECALLER EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE…
AND IT TRIED THE DATA SAVER MODE THAT TOO WORKED… IF YOU DONT WANT TOO MANY ICONS ON UR NOTIFICATION BAR JUST UNINSTALL TRUECALLER…

  • Hi I have tried the solution 1 as I was having only issue with data and I am still facing the Problem and I have checked doing all other 3 still no results

    • Hi Abdul, so turning on data saver brings no change and the apps still stay pending? Can you go ahead and try the solution 2? Theres no harm there so you should give it a try as well.
Hopefully you are not roaming outside of your telecom circle as in that case it is a known issue with Nougat and we will need Google to fix it properly first.

      • I have tried solution 1.that is turn on data saver.it works. But it is not working on wifi.solution 2 does not work.that is sfter uninstall update problem still rains.bt some relief as on mobile data i can download now.
