The competition and Opinion
There is an extreme competition in the budget and lower middle range smartphone segment. The Realme 1 from OPPO will compete directly with the Redmi and Asus smartphones. Here are some of the smartphones which are true competitors or alternates to the Realme 1. The success of Realme 1 will mean loss of sales of these smartphones:
- Xiaomi Redmi Note 5
- Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro
- Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1
- Huawei Honor 7X
- Billion Capture Plus
With Realme 1, OPPO is off to a great start to take on the online smartphone market. The device offers a great value for the money. The Helios P60 is a powerful processor, and it coupled with decent amount of storage and RAM will offer a positive user experience.
We do not have many examples of brands which got successful while trying to offer cheaper hardware exclusively to online buyers. They need to be careful with what they do, because Micromax even lost the offline space while trying to jump into the online market using its YU brand.
We do not see it as a big threat to established/Tier-A brands like Samsung, Nokia, Motorola and the others as they have a different target audience. However, it will definitely affect their sales to some extent. What we feel is that the Realme will have a more worsening effect on the sales of oppo branded devices in the segment than any other.
