Nokia T20 Tablet launched by HMD Global – Specs and availability

After winning the smartphone race (pun intended), HMD Global has forayed into the world of tablets. The Nokia T20 is the first Android-powered tablet launched by HMD Global. It ends the long-standing gap of a Nokia-branded tablet from the markets. The last time we saw a Nokia tablet was with Nokia N1, which Nokia launched before HMD Global became the “Exclusive” brand licensee for phones and tablets. Luckily, the tablet market is not as crowded as the smartphones counterpart. So, HMD might be able to find some space for it there.

HMD Global is bagging on the usual marketing qualities for the Nokia T20 that it uses for its smartphones. It includes the promise of regular software updates and a clean/pure Android OS experience. The Nokia T20 comes pre-installed with Android 11 OS with 2 years of OS upgrades – making it eligible for Android 13. HMD Global is also including 3 years of support for monthly Android security patches, making it eligible for updates beyond October 2023 (depending on the month of sales start).

Nokia T20 overview

Nokia T20 is a tablet made out of metal. The 10.36-inch display with a resolution of 1200 * 2000 is surrounded by an aluminum body. It is an LCD display with a brightness of up to 400 nits with support for brightness boost. The display is protected by toughened glass, HMD did not specify which one. HMD has also had the display certified for low blue light emission which will reduce eye strain when used for long hours.

Underneath, a Unisoc T610 CPU is handling the processing. It is an octa-core CPU with 2 A75 cores clocked at 1.8Ghz and 6 A55 cores also clocked at 1.8Ghz. HMD has included an 8200 mAh battery which can offer up to 10 hours of streaming or 15 hours of web browsing. The battery can be charged with up to a 15W charger, although HMD only ships a 10W charger in the box. There’s a dedicated port for the 3.5mm audio jack, stereo speakers as well, and 2 microphones, one of which will handle noise cancellation.

Coming to cameras, Nokia T20 features a 5MP camera on the front. The camera should be able to handle the video calls and online lectures. It also works for facial recognition to allow for easy unlocking. HMD decided to center the camera on the horizontal (landscape) side of the tablet. So, it might become a bit harder if you’re walking and video calling. However, the usability will improve in work environments and for students.

There is an 8MP camera on the back of the tablet to take photos of people and things around you. Nokia T20 is available in RAM and storage variants of 3GB + 32GB and 4GB + 64GB. I wish there was more, however, there is a slot to insert a MicroSD card to expand the storage up to 512GB.

Nokia T20 comes in both WiFi-only and 4G options. You can choose among them based on your requirement for storage and use cases. If you aim to use the tablet indoors with WiFi always available, then there’s essentially no need to eye the 4G connectivity.

So, that’s pretty much all about the Nokia T20 that you need to know. HMD Global is targeting the general use case of office, home entertainment, online classes for students and even kids (thanks to the Google Kids Space which helps in restricting access to unsafe content). HMD is also offering official cases, one of which can act as a kickstand.
