Amidst the global lockdown and/or reduced business operations globally due to COVID-19, Nokia Mobile is extending the warranty for all consumers. Any consumer whose warranty is due to expire or has expired between the 15th of March 2020 & the 15th of May 2020 will receive 60 days of extended coverage. So, they can have their phones repaired/fixed after the lockdown comes to an end.
To ensure the safety of consumers and employees, Nokia Mobile Care centres are currently closed in most of the countries. India officially announced the 21 days of full lockdown, which will expire on the 3rd of May. Depending on the situation, the lockdown may get extended or eased up. Nokia Mobile is still servicing phones in regions where the online repair and returns service is available.
It is nice to see OEMs acting in the interests of the consumers during this tough situation. Other OEMs such as Huawei, BBK Group, Lenovo & Xiaomi have also offered an extended coverage varying between 45 to 90 days. The logistics and availability of spare parts are also impacted, which may cause longer wait times when submitting devices for repair post the lockdown.
For ease of understanding, have a look at this table:
|Warranty ending on (in 2020)||New date after extension (in 2020)|
|14th March (or earlier)||No extension. The warranty has expired.|
|15th March||14th May|
|15th April||14th June|
|15th May||14th July|
|16th May||No extension. Warranty expires on 16th May|
Do remember that you may need an invoice to validate the warranty and make use of this extension. So, if your warranty is expiring in this period; then, you should make sure that you carry the original purchase receipt before going to a Nokia Mobile Care.
The extended coverage is applicable/available is applicable globally. Nokia Mobile has put the information on their international website to ensure that the message clearly reaches to the consumers.
Changes: 20/04/2020: Updated the article to reflect changes made by Nokia Mobile. The warranty extension is valid until 15th of May and for 60 days from the date of expiry.
