How to Turn off Vibration of Capacitive Keys in Nokia Lumia

windows phone logo purpleNokia is constantly working on improving the user experience and differentiate itself from the other OEMs producing devices running Microsoft’s Windows Phone OS platform. In a recent update to its Lumia exclusive touch application, Nokia now allows Nokia Lumia owners to turn off the vibration which happens on pressing the three Windows Phone capacitive keys – Back, Start and Bing Search. The option only allows turning off vibration for all the keys and there is no way to select which keys to disable the vibration for.

  1. Make sure that you have the latest version of the Nokia Touch app. Support for turning off the vibration was introduced in version If you are using a version older than this, find the download link and QR code towards the end of the post.
  2. If you have just updated the app, restart your phone. Else, skip to the next step.
  3. Open settings (swipe left from start> settings), scroll down, locate and open touch.Description will say the following – sensitivity, wake up and Windows keys.

Is this option available on the Nokia Lumia Icon? I found the touch menu but it did not have the same options as in the picture above. I feel as if it is severely draining my battery.

    • Narender Singh April 2, 2014 at 9:03 am #

hmm.. the battery tests say that the Icon doesn’t have a great backup.
As about the option, be sure to update the touch app before you can see that option. To update, scan the QR code in the post or click on the link to the store.

Either there’s something wrong with the phone’s vibrator, or else it’s manually disabled (as guided in this article).

    • Narender Singh October 27, 2014 at 12:02 pm #

Could be a hardware issue or a software issue. If you want to try recovering yourself, use the Nokia Care Suite. If it still doesn’t turn on, you’d be needed to bring it to a Nokia Care Center.

    • Narender Singh January 2, 2015 at 6:10 pm #

Keyboard vibration? You want make each key vibrate on pressing? If so, that’s not possible on Windows Phone.

  19. Aloyce Shirima July 20, 2015 at 11:26 am #

Hi there. I have got a Nokia Lumia 520, it is not vibrating when I put the vibration mode and even its capacitive keys are not vibrating. I have tried the above procedures of put on the navigation in its settling bit still there is no any response. Tell what should I do?

    • Narender Singh July 21, 2015 at 7:30 pm #

Does it vibrate during startup? If not, it seems like a hardware failure with the vibrator. You’ll be needed to visit the Care Center in that case.

    • Narender Singh September 28, 2015 at 6:06 pm #

Seems like a hardware defect. Try visiting a Microsoft Care Center.

  22. Anna October 6, 2015 at 1:41 am #

I guess this app does not exist anymore?
I have a lumia 830 and the vibration on the back key is really, really, really annoying.
It’s a new phone and I’d never had bought this one if I knew I couldn’t turn off the vibration.. 🙁

    • Narender Singh October 6, 2015 at 8:33 am #

Yes. Tried, but couldn’t find it for now. Do you see the setting called ‘touch’ when you upen Settings on your Lumia 830? Guess it should exist there, even if not available on the store.

  23. Anna October 6, 2015 at 9:42 pm #

No, I desperately looked for it but didn’t find.
But after one night of bitterness, now I’m starting to think that because I hate it, I’ll stop wasting my time on my phone, and use it only when i have to.
Yesterday night for the first time in a long time, I fell asleep without my phone in my hands and that’s not bad after all 😎
    Anyway, thanks for your answer!

  24. Sherif October 16, 2015 at 2:51 pm #

Where is the app, it’s not on the store?

  25. Ankush January 19, 2016 at 12:47 am #

Horrible experience with nokia 520, started causing problem within moths of purchase, initially it used to hang very frequently, then touch wont work for certain apps, now all capacitive button, back browser all gone, phone is too slow and useless now.
Never trust nokia for smartphones category.

    • Narender Singh January 20, 2016 at 11:22 pm #

Lumia 520 is a device which was launched like 3 years ago. You surely purchased one of the old stocks, buddy. Nokia doesn’t manufacture phones anymore though. So it’s an end anyways.

The same problem here. After I replaced the main board on Lumia 520 (which was dead) and did factory reset, there is not an option to disable navigation bar vibration. It is very annoying. I tried to update Touch application, but it’s not available anymore. If anyone had solved this issue, please share it with us.
