Nokia is constantly working on improving the user experience and differentiate itself from the other OEMs producing devices running Microsoft’s Windows Phone OS platform. In a recent update to its Lumia exclusive touch application, Nokia now allows Nokia Lumia owners to turn off the vibration which happens on pressing the three Windows Phone capacitive keys – Back, Start and Bing Search. The option only allows turning off vibration for all the keys and there is no way to select which keys to disable the vibration for.
Turning off Vibration for Back, Start and Bing Search key
- Make sure that you have the latest version of the Nokia Touch app. Support for turning off the vibration was introduced in version 2.2.0.1. If you are using a version older than this, find the download link and QR code towards the end of the post.
- If you have just updated the app, restart your phone. Else, skip to the next step.
- Open settings (swipe left from start> settings), scroll down, locate and open touch.Description will say the following – sensitivity, wake up and Windows keys.
- Turn the knob in front of
Windows Phone keys vibrateNavigation Bar to Off. - Tap on Restart Now to make the setting change effective. If you don’t the setting will not be deployed.
In future if you wish to enable the vibration, you just need to follow the same steps again and turn on the knob in touch settings. Comment below to leave your feedback or if you’re facing a problem.
Updates:
- v 2.3: The Option is now changed to Navigation Bar instead of the previous Windows Phone keys vibrate

The same problem here. After I replaced the main board on Lumia 520 (which was dead) and did factory reset, there is not an option to disable navigation bar vibration. It is very annoying. I tried to update Touch application, but it’s not available anymore. If anyone had solved this issue, please share it with us.

I have Lumia 525 updated to denim. When I check the touch app, I dont find the navigation bar option..when I try updating the app from store it says this app is not available for ur phone or location….please help
Horrible experience with nokia 520, started causing problem within moths of purchase, initially it used to hang very frequently, then touch wont work for certain apps, now all capacitive button, back browser all gone, phone is too slow and useless now.
Never trust nokia for smartphones category.
Lumia 520 is a device which was launched like 3 years ago. You surely purchased one of the old stocks, buddy. Nokia doesn’t manufacture phones anymore though. So it’s an end anyways.
Where is the app, it’s not on the store?
No, I desperately looked for it but didn’t find.
But after one night of bitterness, now I’m starting to think that because I hate it, I’ll stop wasting my time on my phone, and use it only when i have to.
Yesterday night for the first time in a long time, I fell asleep without my phone in my hands and that’s not bad after all 😎
Anyway, thanks for your answer!
I guess this app does not exist anymore?
I have a lumia 830 and the vibration on the back key is really, really, really annoying.
It’s a new phone and I’d never had bought this one if I knew I couldn’t turn off the vibration.. 🙁
Yes. Tried, but couldn’t find it for now. Do you see the setting called ‘touch’ when you upen Settings on your Lumia 830? Guess it should exist there, even if not available on the store.
My nokia lumia 520 does not turn on wifi.. I reset the phone but still it does not. When I put on wifi it tells me i try later or reset phone. I reset phone but still not working
Seems like a hardware defect. Try visiting a Microsoft Care Center.
its not working on lumia 820
Is it upgraded to Windows Phone 8.1
Hi there. I have got a Nokia Lumia 520, it is not vibrating when I put the vibration mode and even its capacitive keys are not vibrating. I have tried the above procedures of put on the navigation in its settling bit still there is no any response. Tell what should I do?
Does it vibrate during startup? If not, it seems like a hardware failure with the vibrator. You’ll be needed to visit the Care Center in that case.
I have bought Lumia 920 4 days ago its battery is just terrible everything is off such as location NFC Bluetooth what to do can u help me and when I charge 100 it took 30 mins to coke to 99 and then it started to drain very quickly ???
Is it a brand new phone? Or used? Probably the battery has worn out?
The back button and menu button on lumia 720 not working since 15 days. I t will automatically correct itself after sometime. But since yesterday its completely stopped working. Went to nokia care when i first experienced it. they said its touch pad issue and would cost around 7k for repair. but the rest of the touch pad is working without any hassle. please do help
They were the best persons to help you and if they say that, it should be the case. I wish I could help you here, but unfortunately I can’t.
I would like the Windows Update which will turn off my phone vibration please.
.
I want to know how to enable keyboard vibration while texting on Nokia lumia 535
Keyboard vibration? You want make each key vibrate on pressing? If so, that’s not possible on Windows Phone.
How to turn off lights on navigation key in Lumia 830???please help me
It is not possible.
when the phone rings in sound and vibration mode, vibration occurs only time. but i need it to vibraate for the entire ring. suggest a solution
There’s no such possibility yet. Maybe Microsoft will enable that with the next update.
i upgrade from wp 8.0 to 8.1 on my lumia 520 now when i enter touch it justs shows a black screen and goes back to settings.
should i hard reset the phone?
i cant able to power on my mobile. if it s power on It will be vibrate and tat Nokia logo will be displayed. More than that is not working. Plz help me
Could be a hardware issue or a software issue. If you want to try recovering yourself, use the Nokia Care Suite. If it still doesn’t turn on, you’d be needed to bring it to a Nokia Care Center.
hey the vibration of the capacitive keys is not working in my lumia 520 what to do ………………
Either there’s something wrong with the phone’s vibrator, or else it’s manually disabled (as guided in this article).

I have done factory reset, previously those buttons do not used to vibrate.
but now they are vibrating….. i have checkd no such option is there in the setting…..please help
Have you updated your Touch app?
And what about the lights of the three buttons? How do i turn them on/off?
No such option is available (yet).
Is this option available on the Nokia Lumia Icon? I found the touch menu but it did not have the same options as in the picture above. I feel as if it is severely draining my battery.
hmm.. the battery tests say that the Icon doesn’t have a great backup.
As about the option, be sure to update the touch app before you can see that option. To update, scan the QR code in the post or click on the link to the store.
it’s working
Cool Feature. 🙂 Will try tomorrow once i get the phone 😛
Good luck receiving it early 😛
