It is surely a good news for text messaging addicts, TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) has taken down its decision of allowing a maximum of 100 SMS-es per day and has increased the limit to 200 SMS-es per day. TRAI published in its Information note to the Press that, many service providers and customers have requested to increase the 100 SMS per day limitation, so they’ve listened to everyone and did the needful. Here’s an excerpt from the Information note:
The Authority has received representations from some of the service providers and consumers to increase the limit of 100 SMS per day per SIM. The Authority has considered these representations and decided to increase the limit of one hundred SMS per day per SIM to two hundred SMS per day per SIM.
Telemarketers and transactional message sending entities which are registered with TRAI are already allowed unlimited number of messages.
New Limits for Subscribers:
Prepaid: 200 Per day, Per SIM
Postpaid: 6000 Per Month, Per SIM
The penalty for violating the text message limit has been set between Rs 25,000 and Rs 2.5 lakh. Telemarketers can also be blacklisted for two years after the sixth instance of violation.
