Samsung introduced its all new Ativ S at IFA last week and has became the fist Windows 8 phone announced. Nokia also entered the Windows Phone 8 market when it announced the new Lumia devices at Nokia World event yesterday. Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer also accompanied Stephen Elop on the stage holding a Lumia in his hand to show support for the Lumia devices.
Screen and Display
The Nokia Lumia 920 features a 4.5″ PureMotion HD+ display with a resolution of 1,280 x 768 pixels and uses the IPS technology. The screen is claimed to be more brighter and with a much higher refresh rate than the competition. It also display deeper blacks (thanks to the ClearBlack technology).
On the other hand, Samsung Ativ S features a display similar to Galaxy S 3 i.e a 4.8in HD Super AMOLED display (larger than the 920). It has a resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels. There’s not much more about the display on the Ativ S.
Size and Weight
The Samsung Ativ S weighs just 135 grams and has a measurement of 137.2 x 70.5 x 8.7mm. Lumia 920, on the other hand weighs 185 grams and features a measurement of 130.3 x 70.8 x 10.7mm. That means that the 920 is a little shorter and thicker than the Ativ S, because of the Polycarbonate material it uses.
Both the Lumia 920 and Ativ S will Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor. Both the phones are pretty the same if the processor is concerned. So, no competition here.
Storage and Memory
The Ativ S has a 1 GB of RAM and will come in both 16GB and 32GB variants along with a 7GB of free Skydrive storage. The phone will also include a MicoSD slot (surprisingly) to add more storage memory, if needed.
The Lumia 920 will also have a 1GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. There will be no other variants.
The Lumia 920 will feature a 8.7 megapixel rear camera with Pureview branding and a 1.2 Megapixel front facing camera for video calls and all.The rear camera does come with some advancements like the Carl-Zeiss optics, advanced optical image stabilization system and a bigger aperture to capture more light.
The Ativ S comes with a full 8 Megapixel rear camera and a 1.9 Megapixel front camera. The front camera is notably of higher megapixels so expect a better video while calling.
