Alcatel OneTouch Introduces OS-agnostic PIXI 3 Series Smartphones

CES is just around the corner, but Alcatel went ahead to announce its new range of affordable smartphones ahead of CES. The new series – dubbed PIXI 3 – offers multiple screen sizes, 4G-LTE and different operating systems to meet the choice and requirements of everybody.

PIXI 3 series will be available in 4 different screen sizes viz 3.5-inchs, 4.0-inches, 4.5-inches and 5.0-inches giving potential users a plenty of options. All of these devices will offer 4G-LTE capability with the exception of PIXI 3.5″ which will only support up to a 3G connection. Detailed specification sheet is still awaited, but it is said that the PIXI series will be available with a varied choice of operating systems which includes Firefox OS, Windows Phone and Android.

While the hardware will be able to support the above 3 operating systems, the device will only run the OS which is pre-installed from the factory. This means that the users will not be able to manually switch to Windows Phone after buying the android version and likewise. But this is also the only thing that differentiates Pixi 3 devices from the already flooded smartphone market. Users will be able to choose an OS as per their choice without compromising on other aspects.

Availability and pricing is another aspect which hasn’t been mentioned anywhere and we need to wait for further details to unfold. The expectation is that the devices will be budget friendly and will pack hardware suiting the different price ranges that each device will target.
